At the beginning of the season I vowed to not have a repeat of last year’s failure at Sectionals. I was fortunate to add to a solid base of players and come to Sectionals with great players. It took all of our depth to win against a quality field.

I’m not sure of all the scores so hopefully I’m close
We beat Oakmont 2-1 to win our flight. Rich & George won 6-0, 6-0 and left their opponent mumbling about not ever been bageled. Sam & Dave won something like 7-5, 6-3. They came from 5-2 down in the first set to win. Chuck & Roy played a very tough team and lost 7-5, 7-5 .

For the afternoon, we changed the lineup to play against the other flight champs.
Bok & Winston hardly sweat in their 6-0, 6-0 win. Sam (who never plays back to back) & Dave lost in a close one to probably their top pair. Then Chuck & George played together for the first time this season and played flawless tennis. Aggressive & consistent (looked like ringers) and won 6-4, 6-4.

Everyone cranked up their game a notch. In addition we had lots of fans: our teammates, Dave’s wife Hiroko, the other two Sunnyvale teams and Dave’s dog.

It took the whole team to go 9-0 in the regular season, win the playoff and then win for matches in Sectionals.
