In Memoriam: Bill Anderson

Family man, friend, and active member of the tennis community
William (Bill) G. Anderson passed away in his home on November 20.

The passing of Bill Anderson came as a surprise to those of us who knew him.  Bill had been a STC member since 2002.  He captained USTA teams in numerous locations — Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Milpitas.

Along with other STC members, my husband and I attended the December 3rd visitation for Bill in Fremont.  It was very sad for me to see this good man in a casket at the age of 68.

He was funny, friendly and a man with a good heart...a very down-to-earth person.  We met Bill's family, his wife Tam Ngo and their daughter Vy Joel.  Vy's daughter, Azariah, is a lovely 9 year-old girl. She greeted the guests graciously with her sweet smile and spoke very highly of her grandpa teaching her tennis. She was poised and very graceful at this young age.

We met Bill's mother from Washington DC who is 96 years old.  It was amazing seeing how she walked without the help of a cane nor in a wheel chair.  She is about 5'1" with a thin body structure.  She was very alert and spoke with a strong voice.  We also met Bill's other relatives and friends.

I told Vy that STC would like to do something for her father- flowers or a donation to a charity organization of their choice.  She indicated the family preferred to receive contributions to help cover some of the funeral expenses.  In lieu of flowers, STC sent a donation to the family.

Good-bye to a good, old friend.  May you rest in peace, Bill.

Glory Tang
